SHUTTER SPEED AND APERTURE CONTROL
In this lesson you will work with controlling the shutter speed to intentionally freeze your subject or blur your subject.
On your camera the shutter speed is indicated on the far left of the menu screen. To adjust the shutter to make it slower or faster, you need to either be in Manual mode (M) or Shutter priority (S). Next use the dial on the front of the camera to adjust the shutter speed. You will have to balance the aperture and the ISO so you have a balanced photo. This may take some trial and error.
Some ideas for fast shutter speed photography:
-jumping in the air
-something breaking or shattering
-objects falling: matches, toothpicks, dominoes, marbles
-water pouring
-animals moving (dogs, horses,hummingbirds)
-sports photography
Some ideas for slow shutter speed photography:
-deck of cards shuffling
-water droplets
-water moving
-range of motion: baseball/golf swing, jumping jacks
-night photography: stars, light painting, amusement park lights, traffic lights
-shaky portraits
Assignment: Create 4 well exposed / composed and processed images from both categories above.
